What is yoga?
Yoga means "to yoke" or "to join" and it is a physical and mental discipline that unites the body and the breath to build strength, flexibility and balance as well as creating wellness, awareness and stillness within. In the West, the most widely taught form of yoga is Hatha Yoga with classes offering students exercises to stretch and flex the body, develop breath awareness, relaxation and sometimes meditation. Some classes may be low impact while others can be very demanding.
Kindness and acceptance. Yoga can be challenging but it is never competitive. It is
not about pushing your limits and putting yourself through pain,
but about quieting the mind and accepting how you are at
the present. This enables you to work with the
abilities you already
possess whilst
enjoying the quality of the
movement
as
well as
making steady
progress.
